Google has announced that it is closing down the game streaming service Stadia which was launched in March 2019. The platform will be available until the end of January 2023. Here are the details for you…
Stadia is Google’s cloud gaming platform which is launched in 2019. The service gives users instant access to online games. You can access Stadia through Android Tv devices, Chromecast Ultra, and the Stadia application on Android smartphones and on your computer via the Google Chrome browser, tablets running Chrome OS, and Chromebooks.
You can play streaming video games at up to 4K at 60 frames per second with HDR. You can purchase the available games from the Stadia store. The platform has been trying to compete with Sony’s Playstation Plus cloud gaming service, Nvidia’s GeForce Now, and Microsoft’s Xbox cloud gaming service.
However, Stadia has not achieved the traction from gamers as it is expected by Google. Google’s cloud gaming service failed to catch on with gamers. There have been rumors in the last months that the game is over for Stadia. Now, it is officially announced that Google is shutting down its gaming service.
Phil Harrison, who is the general manager of the cloud gaming platform stated that “We have made the difficult decision to start closing down our Stadia streaming service and gamers will continue to have access to their game library and play through the Stadia store until mid-January.”
Gamers on the platform will continue to access the game until mid-January. Google announced that the company will refund past Stadia purchases and it is estimated that the refunds will be completed by the end of January 2023.
